In an attempt to bring together over 3,000 years of the world’s fashion and style, Google Arts and Culture has put up a virtual exhibition under their “We Wear Culture” project for which it has collaborated with 183 distinguished cultural institutions from around the world including India.
Google’s virtual exhibition uses its state-of-the-art technology which includes virtual reality experiences and ultra-high resolution “gigapixel” images which anyone can view through desktops or the Google Arts and Culture app. Everything one wants to know about a particular fashion or the stories behind those styles is available in the virtual experience. Right from the ancient Silk Road to the refined fashion at Versailles to the unparalleled graciousness of the Indian Saree, every fashion statement can be viewed in an intuitive VR environment.
“We invite everyone to browse the exhibition on their phones or laptops and learn about the stories behind what you wear. You might be surprised to find out that your Saree, jeans or the black dress in your wardrobe have a centuries-old story. What you wear is true culture and more often than not a piece of art,” said Amit Sood, Director of Google Arts & Culture announcing the launch of the exhibition.
The world’s fashion exhibit uses Google’s technological prowess in virtual reality, 360-degree video, Street View and ultra-high resolution “gigapixel” images which were used to bring together the fashion collections in the exhibition.
